Sailing

Sail Canada offers the following NCCP workshops:

Fundamental Clinic: This 2.5 to 3 day course provides professional sailing coaches with the necessary theory base for coaching and is an introduction to instructing & coaching, ethical decision making, environment safety, and planning practices.

NOTE: This workshop is a prerequisite to taking the CANSail 1 & 2 Instructor, CANSail 3 & 4 Instructor, and CANSail 5 & 6 Instructor Courses.

CANSail 1 & 2 Instructor Clinic: In this 3 day practical sailing course, you will deliver a land lesson, run a water session while managing risk factors, develop technical sailing skills, and work on coach boat positioning and operator skills. Candidates will be able to deliver structured on-land and on-water sessions to beginner level dinghy sailors, ultimately being able to deliver the CANSail 1 & 2 program at their club.

CANSail 3 & 4 Instructor Clinic: In this 3 day practical sailing course, you will learn to work with athletes of all ages, delivering on-water instruction, helping them develop technical sailing skills, while focusing on safety and professionalism for intermediate sailors, ultimately being able to deliver the CANSail 3 & 4 program at your club. The focus of the workshop is on delivery practice, and on assessing and evaluating your athletes on land and in the water.

CANSail 5 &6 Instructor Clinic: This 3 day practical sailing course applies to coaches that want to work with sailors that are new to racing and that want to train for competitions. Coaches will learn to provide support at regattas while also being able to run a practice session, develop technical sailing skills, and work on coach boat positioning and operator skills. Coaches will also be able to deliver the CANSail 5 & 6 introductory race program at their club.

Development Coach Program: This year long program consists of a week long course followed by a one year mentorship and evaluation. The program focuses on practical on-water coaching and year round training plans for Learn to Train and Learn to Compete athletes on Club and Provincial Teams. It also includes elements of fitness, nutrition, sport science, program management, and regatta coaching.
