Coaches Week Wraps up in Ontario and British Columbia

October 7, 2014

Coaches from across British Columbia and Ontario came together from the 20th to the 27th of September for Coaches Week. It was an opportunity for over 1000 coaches to access free NCCP training and also come together as a community to celebrate the achievements of the past year.

“At its core, Coaches Week is a campaign to recruit, develop, and celebrate coaches around the province,” said Jeremy Cross, Director of Coach Development at the Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO).

With development and education being core to Coaches Week, opportunities for coaches to access free training were a big draw and a huge success for both the CAO and ViaSport, British Columbia’s coach education provider. 58 communities across the two provinces hosted National Coaching Certification Program workshops in addition to distance learning options offered by the CAO to help reach those unable to travel.

In British Columbia, ViaSport took to social media to highlight and recognize the important roles coaches play in the community. Their #ThanksCoach campaign attracted the attention of media outlets such as Breakfast Television while their partnership with Right to Play generated almost $800 to support coach education around the world.

The CAO took the opportunity to celebrate its members’ achievements at the Ontario Coaching Excellence Awards. Nine coaches were recognized for their contributions spanning grassroots development to lifetime achievement.

The CAC would like to congratulate both the Coaches Association of Ontario and ViaSport for their success during Coaches Week and for their continued investment in quality NCCP coach education
