Calgary (November 12, 2013) – The 2013 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference wrapped up today after three days of learning, networking, and celebrating with Canada’s sport community.
Highlights of this year’s conference included keynote presentations by best-selling author Jon Gordon, and a presentation by 1988 Olympic silver medallist, Elizabeth Manley, with an emotional, surprise cameo by Dave King, Assistant Coach of the Phoenix Coyotes.
The conference also included two panels comprised of national team coaches: John Herdman, Head Coach of the Women’s National Soccer team that won bronze in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games; Marcel Lacroix, Head Coach of gold medallists Christine Nesbitt and the men’s team pursuit at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games; Justin Wadsworth, Head Coach of Canada’s National Cross Country Ski team; Frank Dick, legendary athletics coach; Shawnee Harle, Assistant Coach of Canada’s Women’s National Basketball team; Danièle Sauvageau, seven-time participant in the Winter Olympic Games with Canada’s Women’s National Hockey team; and Carla Nicholls, National Event Groups Coach for jumps and combined events with Athletics Canada.
This year’s event piloted an extended conference schedule providing delegates with more opportunities to network. Social events included the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards Gala, and the Essent ISU Speed Skating World Cup which allowed over 200 delegates to enjoy the international competition by cheering for Canada’s athletes at the Olympic Oval.

With the 2014 Winter Olympic Games right around the corner, it was an excellent chance to celebrate a year of success in coaching and sport, and to look forward to sport’s largest stage.”
Next year’s conference, scheduled for November 2014 in the nation’s capital, promises to be an unforgettable event, celebrating Canadian triumphs in Sochi in 2014.
