Description

With a growing body of scientific evidence and athlete testimonials highlighting the significance of mental health in high-performance (HP) sports, coupled with identified gaps in the Canadian health care and HP sport system, a Mental Health Strategy for High Performance Sport in Canada, known as "The Strategy," was developed. The creation of The Strategy was rooted in a critical examination of scientific literature, national and international mental health reports, and a thorough understanding of the Canadian sport context. Numerous stakeholders from the HP sport and mental health domains collaborated on this endeavor, including the Mental Health Partner Group, Mental Health Expert Group, Mental Health Review Group, and Sport Community Group.

The primary objective of The Strategy is to enhance mental health outcomes for all Canadian HP athletes, coaches, and staff. Its official launch took place in July 2021, representing a pivotal step towards prioritizing mental health in the realm of high-performance sports in Canada.
