Halifax, May 26, 2021 — The Black Canadian Coaches Association (BCCA) is pleased to announce the mentors and mentees selected to participate in the second year of the Black Female Coach Mentorship Program (BFCMP). In partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), the BFCMP is aimed at creating equitable opportunities to women in Canada who identify as Black, Biracial, or Indigenous.

The Black Female Coach Mentorship Program focuses on three main objectives: 

  • Providing Black female mentorship;
  • Advancing coach professionalization amongst both program mentors and mentees; and
  • Providing a sustainable model of formalized mentorship that increases accessibility,  support, and leadership development for Black female coaches in sport.

“The CAC is thrilled to support the program as it continues to grow in its second year,” says Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC. “We greatly value the impact that this program will have on our coaching community by increasing opportunities for Black females to be leaders in sport.”

The BFCMP will allow mentors and mentees access to coach advancement and networking opportunities such as the Women in Coaching Professional Development Series facilitated by the CAC. The coaches will also appear in monthly features and special events such as the Coaching Black HERstory webinar during Black History Month.

The 2021-2022 BFCMP mentor and mentees were selected from across Canada, and represent a wide array of sports including: ice hockey, soccer, basketball, swimming, football and athletics.
