WINNIPEG (November 14, 2015) – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) and Investors Group have partnered to host 65 local Winnipeg community coaches at the 2015 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif (#SLS15) conference, which will include their participation in National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) workshops today.

The inaugural Investors Group Community Coaches Day ensures that the CAC’s national conference will have a lasting legacy in the City of Winnipeg by exposing local coaches to national level professional development and NCCP training opportunities at no cost, benefitting local athletes for years to come.

The Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif is Canada’s conference for coaches, researchers, sport executives, and administrators. It gathers 400+ delegates for three full days of learning, professional development, and networking with the top minds and leaders of the Canadian sport, business, and education communities. Organized by the CAC, the 2015 edition was held November 12-14 at the RBC Convention Centre and the Delta Winnipeg.

“Ultimately, everything we do at the Coaching Association of Canada is in service of the coach,” said Lorraine Lafrenière, CEO of the CAC. “Gathering community coaches who are eager to learn provides an excellent opportunity for all delegates to reflect on why we are here in Winnipeg and what we are collectively trying to accomplish. We thank Investors Group, a key sponsor of the CAC for 24 years, for investing in coach education in our communities, which enhances the experience of Canadian athletes.”

Through Investors Group Community Coaches Day, local coaches will be able to attend presentations, including keynote sessions by Jennifer Botterill, 3-time Olympic gold medal hockey player, and John Furlong, President and CEO of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. These sessions will be followed by an afternoon of NCCP workshops.

“The investment of time and energy each of these coaches gives is remarkable,” said John Wiltshire, Senior Vice-President, Marketing, Investors Group. “Our involvement with the Coaching Association of Canada has focused on supporting the efforts of volunteer community coaches like those attending Investors Group Community Coaches Day and giving them opportunities to improve their coaching and leadership skills.” Investors Group Community Coaches Day is a product of great partnership between the CAC, Investors Group, and Sport Manitoba, who facilitated registration and the NCCP coach training workshops.
