Nine Aboriginal coaches from six provinces and one territory have been given the opportunity to be part of the coaching staff at the 2011 Canada Winter Games being held in Halifax NS from February 11 to February 27, 2011. They are participating in the Games as part of a pilot project developed in partnership by the Aboriginal Sport Circle, Canada Games Council, and the Coaching Association of Canada.

The Aboriginal Apprentice Coach Program (AACP) provides participants with valuable multisport games exposure, as well as the coaches receiving professional development from their assigned coach mentor throughout the Games.

A collaborative effort by all provincial and territorial sport bodies was fundamental in identifying and selecting the coaches for this year’s Games. The program is providing the Aboriginal coaches with the opportunity to develop their coaching skill at a high performance level.
