Richmond Selected as Host City for 2016 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif Conference
OTTAWA (March 12, 2015) – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is pleased to announce that the city of Richmond, B.C., has been selected to host the 2016 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference. The event will take place from November 3-5, 2016 at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel and the Richmond Oval. The event was last held in British Columbia in 2009.
“The Coaching Association of Canada welcomes the opportunity to bring the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference back to the scene of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games where so many inspiring sporting moments became etched in the minds of Canadians,” said Lorraine Lafrenière, CEO of the CAC. “Richmond Sport Hosting did an exemplary job bringing together a number of significant sport partners in BC who will make this conference a truly unique experience for all the delegates.”
“As a Venue City of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a city known for being one of the healthiest in Canada, and a city where current and future Olympic and Paralympic athletes live, train, and compete to win medals for Canada, Richmond is a perfect fit for the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference,” said Warren Purchase, Acting Manager, Richmond Sport Hosting. “We could not be more proud to be hosting sport leaders from across our country.”
With 2016 being an Olympic and Paralympic year, the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards Gala is sure to be a highlight of the conference. Annually, award recipients are honoured for exemplifying the values and competencies of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and for their influence in positively shaping the Canadian sport community.
“Suncor, through our Petro-Canada brand, has been a proud sponsor of this conference for many years, and we are excited that the conference will be held in Richmond, B.C., the home of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Deborah Gullaher, vice president, marketing, Suncor. “Through the conference and award show we are able to recognize the hard work and dedication of Canadian coaches that help fuel our athletes’ dreams on their way to the podium.”
As the CAC’s provincial multi-sport partner in British Columbia, ViaSport has been instrumental in supporting the CAC’s vision for a conference that is relevant to British Columbian coaches and sport leaders. “Having the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference in British Columbia is a great opportunity for our sport community to interact with leading coaches and administrators from throughout Canada to gain the most up-to-date information and celebrate coaching excellence,” said Cathy Priestner-Allinger, CEO of ViaSport.
