OTTAWA, ON (May 14, 2026) Coaching outdoors means managing changing weather, and keeping participants safe in every season.

In partnership with Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Coaching Association of Canada has launched five new WeatherReady Coaching resources to help coaches prepare, monitor conditions in real time, and take action when weather risks increase.

Each resource includes practical guidance on how coaches can keep everyone safe in a variety of weather conditions, including;

  • Extreme Cold & Wind Chill
  • UV Index
  • Air Quality Health Index (AQHI)
  • Lightning Safety
  • Extreme Heat & Humidity

Understanding the weather and its impact is an essential safety skill for coaches and sport administrators. Coaches play a key role in protecting the wellbeing of their participants, and understanding weather alerts (watches, warnings and advisories) supports safer, more informed decisions before and during outdoor activities.

Visit the WeatherReady Coaching website to access all resources and get practical tools to support safe outdoor sport yearround.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is the country’s official source for weather information and alerts. You can access accurate, timely, and location-specific weather updates anywhere in Canada online atCanada.ca/weatheror on your mobile phone through the freeWeatherCANapp.
