John Bales, CEO of the Coaching Association of Canada Steps Down

July 8, 2013

Ottawa (July 8, 2013) – The Board of Directors of the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) today announced that John Bales has stepped down as chief executive officer, effective immediately. The CAC has had the sincere privilege of having Bales create a deep and powerful foundation for coaching development since 1978, and as the CEO since 1996. An incredible amount of work has been done by Bales and his team to establish Canada as an international leader in coaching development.

“It has been an exceptional journey as CEO of the Coaching Association of Canada for the past 17 years and I am very proud of what we have accomplished,” said Bales. “The foundation that has been built was done with a deep passion and heartfelt commitment to coaching. This foundation leaves the CAC in a position to continue to impact the coaching community in Canada and internationally. It has been an honour to work with the very talented staff at the CAC and with the sport community in Canada.”

Bales, who is also President of the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE) said: “I look forward to continuing my work in international coaching and with the ICCE, and remain committed to helping the CAC through this transition.”

Chair of the Board, Gabor Csepregi, reflected: “John has been a great leader and has made a significant contribution in Canada and internationally – we wish him well in his ongoing endeavours in the area of sport and coaching. There are many new challenges ahead for the Association, and the Board will be embarking on a search for a new CEO in the coming weeks.”

At the request of the Board, a senior management team has stepped into the role of acting CEO, pending appointment of a new CEO.
