“The Coaching Association of Canada is exceptionally proud of our Canadian coaches and athletes for the perseverance they have shown in preparation for the Games,” said Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC. “We commend their ability to adapt and succeed in this environment, and we thank them for their commitment to coaching excellence and ensuring a safe and positive sport experience for their athletes.”

Team Canada is sending 49 athletes to Beijing and will have representatives in all five winter sports in Beijing: Para ice hockey, Para nordic skiing, Para alpine skiing, wheelchair curling, and Para snowboard. The team includes 25 Paralympic medallists and 19 first-time Paralympians.

Mick Lizmore, ChPC, will be making his Paralympic debut as the Head Coach of the national wheelchair curling team after being appointed in May of 2020. While Lizmore is honoured and excited to be representing his country in the upcoming Games, the team’s eyes are set on the preparation and efforts necessary to compete for a  Paralympic medal.

“It’s not very often that you get to represent your country internationally and we’re looking forward to a new and exciting experience as a team,” said Lizmore, the London, Ontario native. “But at the same time, we’re there to compete against a very strong field and do our best to earn a podium finish by the end of the week.”

The Para ice hockey team is being led by Head Coach Ken Babey, ChPC. Babey brings years of coaching knowledge and prior Games experience, having led the 2018 national team to a Paralympic Silver in PyeongChang.

“The Paralympic Winter Games are the pinnacle of our game, and it is a true honour to be a part of the Canadian Paralympic Team’s para hockey team in Beijing,” said Babey. “The Paralympics are the biggest stage for our athletes, as well as our coaching and support staff, and we are excited for the opportunity to represent the country as we look to accomplish our goal of winning a gold medal for Canada.”
