NCCP Concussion awareness training reaches 100K milestone in completions
Ottawa, September 28, 2021 – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is proud to support Concussion Awareness Week, held across Canada from September 26 to October 2, 2021, which highlights the influential role all Canadians can play in preventing, recognizing, and managing concussions.
Concussions are a serious public health issue affecting all those across Canada. Early recognition of concussion, proper medical assessment, and appropriate management can make a difference in recovery. As a member of the Federal-Provincial/Territorial Working Group on Concussions in Sport, the CAC encourages all sport and recreation participants, parents, coaches, organizers, educators, and more, to help increase awareness about this important issue.
The Coaching Association of Canada’s (CAC) NCCP Making Head Way eLearning module is one of a series of eLearning modules and other resources designed to help coaches reduce the incidence of brain injuries in sports and to improve decision-making about when it is safe to return to play after a head injury. The free resource has received over 100,000 completions since it launched in 2014.
“Coaches play a key role in injury prevention for children and youth in sport. The NCCP Making Head Way eLearning module and complementary concussion awareness resources, are available to train and prepare coaches to recognize, assess, and appropriately manage recovery.” says Lorraine Lafrenière, CEO of the Coaching Association of Canada. “With over 100,000 completions of the NCCP Making Head Way eLearning module, we are grateful to have provided coaches and participants the confidence they require to successfully manage concussion prevention and recovery.”
