REGINA, SK, November 14, 2024 – The 2024 Petro-Canada™ Sport Leadership sportif conference (#SLS24), Canada’s annual conference for coaches, researchers, sport executives, and administrators will be hosted in Regina for the first time in 21 years. With support from the Regina Hotel Association and the Coaches Association of Saskatchewan, Regina can expect to see over 300 delegates from across the country converge for learning, professional development and networking opportunities with the top minds and leaders of the sport, business and education communities in Canada. 

 

The conference is organized by the Coaching Association of Canada™ (CAC) and takes place this year from November 14-15 at the Queensbury Convention Centre (REAL District), with memorable sessions being held in Mosaic Stadium itself. 

 

Theme: Amplifying Voices

The 2024 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference will focus on the importance of amplifying voices across the sport community. By gaining a deeper understanding of different perspectives, sport leaders can contribute to creating more inclusive and safe spaces. The conference encourages leaders to shift their focus towards improvement and growth by drawing insights from diverse narratives. 

 

The 2024 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference is an opportunity to:

  • Amplify voices that advocate for inclusivity, equity, and progress; 

  • Collectively strengthen diverse narratives to drive positive change; 

  • Embrace holistic approaches to learning with a growth mindset.

 

The conference provides an opportunity for delegates to engage in insightful discussions, collaborative endeavours, and shared experiences, with the goal to nurture a community of resilient and enlightened leaders who can creative supportive environments where individual voices can thrive.

Keynote speakers presenting at this year’s conference have varied backgrounds and experiences. They include:

 

  • Neville Wright: Olympic athlete in Track & Field and Bobsleigh
  • Colette Bourgonje: Paralympic athlete and pioneer in Saskatchewan sport

  • Lori Campbell: Social justice advocate and Associate Vice-President of Indigenous Engagement at the University of Regina

The conference will be co-hosted by Reila Bird, Director of the Indigenous Continuing Education Center at the First Nations University of Canada in Regina, and Annie Gagnon, Director, Marketing & Communications, at the Canadian Sport Institute Alberta.

 

More than 70 of Canada’s top coaches will be recognized this year by the CAC’s National Coaching Awards, with many in attendance at the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards Gala on Friday, November 15, at the Delta Hotel by Marriott Regina.

 

#SLS24 is presented in partnership with Petro-Canada, a Suncor business, which has been supporting Canadian athletes, coaches, and their families for more than 35 years.
