OTTAWA (October 10, 2014) – The Coaching Association of Canada is proud to announce that Kelly VanderBeek, Olympic alpine skier and broadcaster, has just confirmed her attendance at the 2014 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference. Ms. VanderBeek will speak to the best and brightest minds in Canadian sport on her “unexpected journey”.
Prior to her work with the CBC and the “Raising an Olympian” series, VanderBeek was an alpine skiing Olympian and World Cup medallist who regularly travelled on skis in excess of 140km/h. She overcame both geographical and physical challenges on her road to the podium, and will share these stories with up-and-coming athletes and conference delegates as part of the “Women in Sport Leadership” luncheon at the conference on Saturday afternoon.
‟I am excited to speak at the ‘Women in Sport Leadership’ luncheon to share my stories,” said VanderBeek. “It’s a rare opportunity to offer inspiration to a group that is, in itself, so inspirational.”
VanderBeek joins an impressive line-up of speakers for the conference which include: Canadian sport icons Sheldon Kennedy, Chantal Petitclerc, and Steve Podborski; leadership experts Drew Dudley, Frank Dick, OBE, Anne Merklinger, and Peter Judge, and numerous current Olympic and Paralympic coaches.
The 2014 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference takes place from November 6 to 8 at the Westin Ottawa, and brings together over 400 leaders in Canadian sport. Tickets for Kelly’s presentation, presented by the CAC and the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity can be purchased for $40, and is also open to non-conference attendees. Discounted rates at the hotel are only available until October 17th and the conference is expected to sell out by October 30th.
