Suncor Energy Renews Commitment to Coach Education in Canada

August 9, 2012

LONDON, England (August 9, 2012) – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) today announced Suncor Energy’s continued support of Canadian coaches at the Petro-Canada Coaches Appreciation Evening at Canada Olympic House. The renewed partnership will extend the current agreement through to 2016.

“Coaches are an important part of every athlete’s journey,” said Steve Williams, president and CEO, Suncor Energy. “We will continue to build our coaching programs as it is the hard work and dedication of Canadian coaches that helps in the development and success of our athletes in their pursuit to dream big.”

Suncor Energy, through its Petro-Canada brand, has been a key supporter of Canadian coaches and the Coaching Association of Canada through its many programs since 1999. The Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference is an annual conference that attracts more than 700 coaches and sport educators from around the world with an opportunity to learn and network. It’s during this conference that Suncor recognizes Canadian coaches with the Coaching Excellence Award. The Petro-Canada Fuelling Athlete and Coaching Excellence (FACE) program also awards $400,000 annually to 50 coach and athlete pairs to offset training, equipment and travel costs.

“Coaches are the backbone and true difference makers of the Canadian sport system,” said John Bales, CEO of the CAC. “We are exceptionally pleased to continue working with Suncor Energy to promote our top high-performance coaches through the Coaching Excellence Awards and to continuing to grow the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference into a world leading conference for our leaders in sport.”

The next Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference is scheduled for November 8 to 10, 2012 in Montreal, QC. The 2013 conference will take place in Calgary, Alta.
