What is your greatest coaching moment/achievement?

It is hard for me to choose just one moment because every season brings all sorts of accomplishments. I think that witnessing the success of the athletes that I have coached, whether it be in their sport and/or their life is an achievement and I feel proud to have had the chance to get to know them.

There is one moment in particular that is special to me: When I was the assistant basketball coach for our first season in Cadet 3A, we had a 12-0 season and won the provincial championship, it was a memorable season.

What are three things you think every coach should know?
  1. They should know themselves and what type of coach they are;
  2. His/her players and their expectations;
  3. Communication concepts.
Why did you decide to become a coach?

It’s funny, but I don’t think there is a moment I decided to become a coach. It is part of who I am. It came instinctively. I coach because I love doing it.

How would your athletes describe your coaching style in three words?

Demanding but fair, passionate, and devoted.

What is the most important thing you learned as part of your NCCP training?

I think it is the NCCP concepts as a whole that remind us the important points in our style of coaching. One of the most important for me is the coach’s leadership.

Why is being a coach the best job in the world?

Sport has always been a passion of mine, and to have the chance to share that, day after day, with dedicated athletes, and to accompany them on their journey, is the best job in the world. There is no place where I feel more at home than on a baseball field or in the gym.
