Ottawa (December 10, 2015) – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) has taken a leadership role in creating a consistent and efficient process to make background screening easier for national sport organizations, coaches, and volunteers.
The CAC has recently teamed up with SterlingBackcheck (SBC), Canada’s leading background screening provider, to provide an online criminal record check process at a low price of $25 (+tax) per applicant. SBC’s Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) provides a secure database to store and share results, manage renewals, and track the progress of individual checks.
“The Coaching Association of Canada and its partners recognize the importance of responsible and ethical coaching, and we are committed to ensuring the safety of all participants in sport. We’re pleased to be working with SterlingBackcheck to help all sport organizations implement a consistent national screening program for their coaches and volunteers,” said Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC. “With this service, coaches and their represented sport organizations can receive results within one business day, ensuring timely screening and a forgery-proof process”, she added.
SterlingBackcheck’s E-PIC is obtained from Canadian police services, combining a search of the National Repository of Criminal Records in Canada and a search of local police information within multiple databanks. It does not include a Vulnerable Sector Verification (VSV). For frequently asked questions about E-PIC, and other screening needs, please click here.
“We’ve heard from coaches with various sports that timely access to their information is extremely important. Working with the CAC will help get the word out that your personal information is accessible and you do not have to sacrifice privacy, security, or convenience to get it,” says Iain Murray, National Sales Executive – Sport & Non-Profit. “That’s why this collaboration between the CAC and SterlingBackcheck is so important.”
