OTTAWA, ON, June 19, 2019 – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is excited to welcome to its Board of Directors new members who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the organization.
Newly elected members are Susan Lamboo of Winnipeg, Man., Dr. René Murphy of Wolfville, N.S., Mathieu Boucher of Gatineau, Que., and Janice Dawson of Ottawa, On.
“We are exceedingly proud to welcome Susan, René, Mathieu, and Janice to our board,” said Paul Carson, Chair of the CAC’s Board of Directors. “Their proven leadership skills, demonstrated vision, and longstanding commitment to excellence in coaching will be instrumental as the CAC works to deliver against the goals set out in its 2018-2022 Strategic Plan.”
Susan Lamboo is a Provincial/Territorial Coaching Representative and Sport Leadership Council Representative. Currently the Coaching Manager for Sport Manitoba, Susan provides Sport Organizations in that province with guidance and support for their coaching and volunteer screening programs. A multi-sport learning facilitator and a Master Coach Developer for Special Olympics, Lamboo assisted Special Olympics Canada in the redevelopment of the NCCP program into the new system. She has coached for more than 25 years with Special Olympics Manitoba and has been a part of 10 National Games. She was also Mission Staff for the 2019 Team Canada competing in Abu Dhabi and for the 2011 World Games in Greece. She has eight years of board experience at the community club level.
Dr. René Murphy is the Canadian Council of Physical Education and Kinesiology Administrators (CCUPEKA) Representative. He has served on the CCUPEKA Executive for seven years and also serves on its accreditation committee. As Director of the School of Kinesiology at Acadia University, Murphy has reviewed numerous university programs in Kinesiology and Physical Education. For more than 30 years, he has coached recreational athletes in numerous sports including basketball, ringette, softball, hockey, track and field, and cross-country running. Most recently, Murphy coached several local minor hockey teams and served as the varsity cross-country running coach at Acadia University.
Mathieu Boucher is a National Sport Organization Member. Currently head of Development and Operations for Cycling Canada, he leads its coach training programs and acts as its main liaison for hosting international events in Canada. Boucher has been with Cycling Canada for more than 10 years and has five years of experience within the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes (FQSC).
He has also served as the Chair of the CAC’s NSO Executive Council since 2016. An avid mountain biker, Boucher has participated in major Games in various capacities throughout his career.
Janice Dawson, ChPC, completes the new board team as a member-at-large. As the Manager of Sport for the 2021 Canada Summer Games - Niagara, Dawson leads the development of the competition schedule for 18 sports participating at the Games. She has completed NCCP course work in several sports and is an NCCP Competition-Development certified speed skating coach and a trained Learning Facilitator. She was previously the Head Coach for the National Women’s Goalball Team from 2006-2013 and a recipient of the Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Award in 2006. Dawson is currently a Level 3 International Goalball Referee and has officiated at many provincial, national, international, and world championship events.
