This workshop provides an exceptional foundation for your coaching career and introduces new coaching methods that will enhance both your coaching and your program’s effectiveness. This workshop (formerly known as Practice Coach) is ideal for coaches with previous coaching exprience as well as former water polo athletes. The Competitive Coache typically works with Early Competitive Foundations athletes that are just being introduced to structured and organized competition for the first time. This training is also relevant to coaches who are working with athletes aged 15 and older in the Competitive for Life stream.
Through a mix of classroom and hands-on learning in the pool, this 16-hour workshop focuses on:
- Developing a strong understanding of Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) and how it relates to your athletes;
- Developing an effective practice plan;
- Learning how to plan and execute fun and safe practices for your players;
- Introducing technical and tactical elements relevant to water polo.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS WORKSHOP?
This workshop (formerly known as the Practice Coach) is ideal for coaches with previous coaching experience as well as former water polo athletes. Coaches typically work with Early Competitive Foundations athletes that are just being introduced to structured and organized competition for the first time. These athletes would be competing in the 14 and under provincial league and Eastern or Western National Championship.
This training is also relevant to coaches who are working with athletes aged 15 and older in the Competitive for Life stream and who are competing in the Provincial league and not the National League.
PREREQUISITES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
It is recommended that coaches have prior water polo experience and/or have attended the Community Club Coach training. Coaches should also participate in the Make Ethical Decisions multi-sport workshop prior to attending this workshop.
