Weather-Ready Coaching: UV Index

Ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause sunburn and eye damage in any season, and in the long-term can lead to cataracts, weakened immunity, and skin cancer. The higher the UV Index, the stronger the sun’s rays. Snow and water sports need extra caution, as reflected UV can nearly double exposure.

Weather-Ready Coaching: Extreme Cold & Wind Chill

Coaching outdoors in the cold means knowing how to keep participants safe when temperatures drop. Cold, wind chill, and inadequate or wet clothing can quickly lead to frostbite and hypothermia.

Weather-Ready Coaching: Lightning Safety

Lightning is a serious risk during outdoor sport. Strikes can happen fast and cause life-threatening injuries, even when storms seem far away. Coaches need to act early to keep participants safe during stormy weather.

Weather-Ready Coaching: Air Quality Health Index

Participants breathe more deeply during sport, which means they take in more air, and more air pollution. Poor air quality can affect breathing, performance, and overall health. Monitoring the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) helps coaches make safe, informed decisions for participants.
